Bert J. Hash, Jr.
Past President
Bert J. Hash, Jr., is the retired President and CEO of the Municipal Employees Credit Union of Baltimore (MECU), Inc., a position he held from December 1996 until June 2014. Mr. Hash was a seasoned financial services executive with over 44 years of experience in managing various aspects of banking and financial services. Before retiring from MECU, Bert worked for Equitable Bank for 15 years and Provident Bank of Maryland for 12 years.
During his18 year tenure in the Credit Union Industry, Bert has been active on numerous boards and committees. During his tenure, Bert served as Chairman of the Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association (MDDCCUA), Vice Chair of the Maryland Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) and the Baltimore Development Board as Loan Committee Chair. He is member emeritus of the Board of Directors of the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) and a retired member of the CUNA Mutual Group Board of Directors. In April 2008, he was appointed by Maryland’s Governor O’Malley as one of the Board of Trustees for the Maryland Affordable Housing Trust (MAHT). In addition, Hash was appointed by Governor O’Malley to the Lottery and Gaming Commission in November 2012 and reappointed by Governor Hogan in 2018, Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake appointed Hash to the Baltimore City Fire Commissioners Board in June 2012 and he still serves in that capacity..
Active in numerous professional and civic organizations, Mr. Hash serves as a board member of the Senior Services of America, Inc.; serves as board member of Morgan State University’s Foundation and the Dean’s Advisory Board of the Business School, serves as Treasurer of the Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership Board. Hash is a Commissioner on the Martin L. King Commission of Howard County. Bert Hash holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Morgan State University. Bert has been married to his lovely wife Joan S. Hash for forty-nine
years and they reside in Ellicott City, Maryland.
